Filipino melon juice (or melon sa malamig) is a summertime favorite made with freshly grated cantaloupe, water, sugar, and sometimes a splash of milk. You’ll spot it everywhere—from karinderyas to palengkes—served ice-cold in clear containers that scream tanghali na, inom ka muna!
Its popularity took off in the 1970s and 80s with the rise of street vendors selling “samalamig” (iced drinks) in giant jars—affordable, homemade, and perfect for the tropical heat.
