Halo Halo
Halo-halo (literally “mix-mix”) is the Philippines’ most iconic summer treat. A riot of colors and textures—sweetened fruits, beans, jellies, leche flan, ube halaya, and shaved ice—topped with evaporated milk and sometimes a scoop of ube ice cream.
But this dessert is more than just a heat-buster. It’s a product of cultural fusion, tracing its roots to the Japanese kakigōri, brought to the Philippines pre-WWII and gradually Filipinized with local ingredients.
No two halo-halos are the same—and that’s the beauty of it.
