St. Malo
The very first Filipino Settlement in the Americas was years before Christopher Columbus in Saint Malo Louisiana. The Filipino sailors and indentured servants called Manila men, escaped Spanish Galleon ships. Like every part of colonialism, this is a complicated part of our history. Although some people celebrate this as a moment of empowering history, we must also always prioritize the perspective of Indigenous communities, as the Manila men settled in lands that weren't theirs to being with. These are the ripple effects of colonialism, to create a hierarchy of power and claim discoveries and lands that have long been inhabited.
All pieces come in hooks for pierced, clasps for stretched ears, as well as clip ons for non pierced ears. All of our findings are hypoallergenic gold plated brass, nickel free, and made in the US.
